You guys . . .
I have a new obsession!
Popcorn!
I can not get enough.
Last week I got this unshakeable urge to make my own popcorn.
And I mean from scratch make my own, not grab a bag of microwave popcorn from the store and zap that bad boy. I’m talking old skool, on the stove, in a pot with a little oil, popcorn kernels and a lid.
Um you guys . . . this stuff rocks!
I can not, will not stop eating it.
Who knew how easy it was to make yourself?
Seriously did you know about this? I had no idea! The thought literally never crossed my mind. Not once?!
And it’s soooooo much cheaper. I paid $1.39 for a bag of unpopped kernels and have made at least 10 cups of popcorn and an only half way through the bag! Compared to paying $3.50 for a single bag of microwave popcorn (or a million dollars if your at the movies?!).
Not only is it a bazillion times cheaper it’s also a gazillion times better for you. You get to totally customise your freshly popped snack to suit your taste.
I can’t stop eating it straight up with just a little sprinkling of salt flakes.
YUM!
I use coconut oil to make my popcorn because I am also currently obsessed with that too but, you can sub for olive oil if you prefer, or it also works oil free. I personally like that taste (and also the nutritional benefits) that a little coconut oil brings to the table but do what you feel baby, make it your own.
Crispy, crunchy bites of freshly popped corn seasoned perfectly just the way you like it.
No weird ingredients, no outrageous amounts of butter, salt or other ingredients you’ve never heard of or can’t pronounce just simple, honest to goodness, healthy, straight up snacks.
Made by you, for you just the way you like it ♥
Once you pop you seriously can’t stop. You have been warned.
Now go, pop to it!
Make it, eat it, luurrrvvveeee it.
Old skool yo!
Simple, Healthy Homemade {Stovetop} Popcorn
Makes aprox 7 cups of super simple, seriously addicting healthy homemade popcornIngredients –
1 teaspoon of coconut oil (can sub olive oil)
1/2 cup popcorn kernels
salt to taste
Method –
1 – Add oil to a medium size saucepan and place over medium heat.
2 – Once your oil has heated through, add your popcorn kernels and give the pan a little shake.
3 – Place a lid on your saucepan, stand back and wait for the fun to begin giving the pan a little shake every now and again. This helps the unpopped kernels sink down to the bottom and prevents any of your delicious, super fun snack from burning.
4 – Once you start hearing a little pause and a good few seconds between pops, remove from the heat but leave covered for a moment of 2. This will allow the final few, random pops to happen without pippin’ right up in your face.
5 – Once you are sure your popcorn is done poppin’ transfer to a large bowl, season with a little salt and toss to combine.
6 – Once seasoned you are ready to dive headfirst into the giant bowl of deliciousness and eat your way out consume as you wish. FYI – Popcorn is best enjoyed fresh of the stove top but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container (or ziplock bag) for a day or so
Enjoy xoxo

Question of the day –
heehee! this is so cute 🙂 stove popped popcorn is a staple snack around here. the kids eat it salt-free and its a great snack for them (roughage!) especially to fill those tummies with a mountain of it!! recently started making it with coconut oil too and it does add a nice extra flavour doesnt it (plus healthy!). of course i love mine with salt and butter 😉 sooooo much cheaper and better for you than the packet stuff – and once you realise its just as easy (chuck it on the stove, no big deal), cant imagine using the packet stuff again huh?
Kate I (we) love it!
Microwave popcorn who?! Never again, no turning back now! 🙂
