December 1st in our family we fondly refer to as “tree day”. Its the day we put up our beloved Christmas tree, dress up in super dorky christmas outfits and dance around to christmas carols. Fun!

Today we also made these sweet and sparkly Cinnamon-Sugar Stars I saw over at recipe girl.

These cookies are simple to make and fun for the little ones in our lives to help with. They look great hanging on your tree or make adorable (not to mention delicious) gifts. They taste and smell absolutely wonderful.

Today we started a new family tradition….we will be making these sweet little cookies every year on tree day and would love it if you would share in our new little tradition.

Sparkly Sugar-Cinnamon Tree Ornaments
From Recipe Girl – Make approx 80 cookies

Ingredients –

2 cups plain flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter
3/4 cup white sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp Vanilla

Sparkly Cinnamon-Sugar –

1/4 cup white sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon

Method

Preheat oven to 175’C (350’F)

In a medium bowl sift flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon then set aside.

In another medium bowl place butter

then sugar and beat on high until light and fluffy (about 3 mins).

Add egg,

then vanilla and beat until just combined.

Gradually add flour/cinnamon mix until its all added

and beat until just combined (it will look a little crumbly).

Tip dough out onto a board or clean surface

Shape into a ball/disc. Divide the dough into 4 ,

wrap each portion in cling wrap and refrigerate for  about 2 hours.

Remove dough 1 portion and a time and roll out to approx 1/8 inch thick (I use wooden skewers as a guide to make sure the dough is nice and even and also roll it out between 2 sheets of baking paper. That way the dough doesn’t stick to the bench or rolling pin :))

Using a star shape cookie cutter (or whatever shape you like really) cut your cookies, you can re-roll/chill your dough to make sure none is wasted (or freeze left over dough for future baking adventures).

If you want the option of hanging your cookies, use the tip of a straw to make the hole before you bake them. Then you will be able to just thread your ribbon/string once they have cooled 🙂

In a small bowl combine your 1/4 cup of granulated sugar and the tsp of cinnamon and stir to combined.

Lightly brush your cookies with egg white

then sprinkle over  the cinnamon sugar.

Bake for 8-10 mins until the edges are slightly golden and the smell is oh so sweet.

Allow to cool, adore with ribbon and decorate your tree……

make sure you taste a few along the way though

they …

are…

deeeelicious!!!!!!!!!!!!
