{Homemade} Jerk Seasoning

I don’t know about your house but in our house, chicken is staple.

1 – It just so quick and easy to prepare

2 – It’s super good for you. Nice and lean, packed with protein and  . . .

3 – Who doesn’t love a good piece of chicken?

I mean come on now? A nice and juicy, succulent piece of chicken cooked to perfection? Yes please!

And it’s just so versatile you know?

{Homemade} Jerk Seasoning

If you follow along with me on Instagram and/or twogrand you will know that I am a huge fan of a good, simple chopped chicken salad. I just love it. Seriously, I could have a big ol’ chopped chicken salad for dinner every single day and be one happy, happy lady. Changing things up with different marinades and seasonings to keep my taste buds guessing. There are a million different ways to keep things interesting and change it up so you never get bored. Love, love, love that.

And that, sweet invisible internet friend of mine, is what we are doing today, spicing things up a little.

Today, for our test it out tuesday recipe I thought we could spice things up by making a super simple, insanely delicious Smoky, Spicy, Sweet Jerk Seasoning.

{Homemade} Jerk Seasoning

Do you know why it’s called jerk seasoning?

I had no idea and felt kinda weird saying it so I did myself a little google search and  here is what I found –

According to mr wikipedia – “The term jerk is said to come from the word charqui, a Spanish term of Quechua origin for jerked or dried meat, which eventually became jerky in English. The term jerk refers to both the dry spice mix as well as the method of cooking.”

Who knew?!

So anyways, basically we are throwing a bunch of spices together and calling it a day. Simple I know but so, so good!

I have no idea how close this “recipe” is to a traditional jerk seasoning all I know is that it’s delicious.

And you need to make it asap.

Smoky, salty and sweet with a nice little kick, the perfect way to spice things up.

{Homemade} Jerk Seasoning

You can simply rub your smoky, spicy, sweet {homemade} jerk seasoning all over your protein of choice (chicken, fish, steak or tofu) and then go ahead and cook as you would, business as usual and may I be so bold as to suggest you add a squeeze of fresh lime juice or a dash of your fave hot sauce (smoked chipotle tabasco sauce is tha’ bomb #justsayin) before serving?! .

So far I have used this spice rub to have myself a killer chopped chicken salad and an ah-maze-ing steak dinner and I highly recommend you try both of these as soon as physically possibly. Oh my deliciousness, you guys are in for a treat!

FYI – This spice mix is also all kinds of awesome on some homemade, oven baked sweet potato fries. Simply slice up your fries, toss in a drizzle of coconut (or olive oil) and season with a little sprinkling of this killer spice mix then bake. Boomshakalocka, I think I’m in love.
